Navdog - connect people with places and events through geography

Navdog is a new website designed to connect people with places and events through geography. The site uses a giant interactive map to display all sorts of interesting and fun things around you. Though this is not a radically new concept NavDog has taken an interesting approach to this service, for starters all content is provided by NavDog members, they can add their own events or destinations or they can become reports who review interesting things they find while traveling across America.
At Navdog you can search for fun and interesting places and events by zip-code and or city, or you can choose the popular states and listings right from the home page links. From there you are forwarded to a map that fills your browser window and some useful floating control panels to help you. There are type and category filters, keyword search, and some good visual help links as well. The map is high-end and allows for a level of user interaction that seems endless and uses every feature of your mouse. Their use of new technologies allows you to leave the area where you started and roam around the country while new things seem to just pop up as you move the map around.
When you join Navdog you get to create your home location, you can simply type in your address or zoom into your state, city and neighborhood to find your house, whichever is easier. If your address returns the wrong location on the map you can correct it and re-associate your address with the right house. This home location is not available to the public; it is your private location, though you can publish this location with an event like a garage sale or classified ad if you choose too. Members also get weather and traffic reports right on the map as well as some extra tools and features.
Driving directions are handled with a simple 2 click process for non-members and a 1 click process for members of the site. For serious road trippers they have also included a way to save and arrange things into full blown travel itineraries that take you to many places and back home again by the most direct route. Navdog is fun and easy to use for the internet novice as well as the technically savvy and it appeals to both for many reasons.

Is http://www.navdog.com/ the correct url? it doesn’t seem to work…
This is some pretty cool stuff. Nicely done and easy to use! It appears they are up and coming hence the BETA tag. I think with a little more time and content they’ll be on to something.
url worked for me!
