Don’t you know Gatherama? Are you joking?

After few months of Web 2.0 obsession, you might feel tired. Believe me there are still few projects that are worth being analyzed. One of them is Gatherama. I asked the founder to tell me more about it and that’s what he told me:

Gatherama is a social voting website that combines news and opinion polls with Web 2.0. Traditionally, opinion polls are boring and expensive to collect the data. We want to change that. Gatherama provides a natural way for people to read the news, vote and discuss the issues, and connect with other people with similar interests.

Our goal is to have Gatherama be an instant reflection of the world’s opinion on current events that are happening. As current events are happening around the world, people can post the news on Gatherama and other people can vote and discuss about the issues related to the news article. We all have a natural tendency of wanting to know what other people think about things that are happening. For example, what percentage of the people is going to see a certain movie or going to buy the first iPhone release or going to vote for Republicans or Democrats. Gatherama also has a “What’s New” section where people can post a short heading and a link to the latest breaking news. All contents of the website are
user-generated.

I started this website because one day I was taking a walk and was thinking that we have this messy Iraq war that is going on and what percentage of the Americans are actually supporting or against this war. Everyday, there are many news articles written around the Iraq war topic but there’s no convenient way for the readers to vote and discuss about
the issues relating to the war. Gatherama has a broad range of topics and I would like to make it be a natural destination for people to come and discover the poll opinion on any type of topics.

Our users receive points for posting, commenting, and voting. The more they contribute the more points they will receive. Currently, the points don’t have any monetary values but that may change in the future.

In summary, Gatherama wants to provide a natural, fun and efficient way for people to read about the current events and discover what others are thinking and saying about the issues that are important in our society.
