The title of this post might suggest that I came up with ideas on how to those media for free. Actually I had to do nothing to get them for free. LEt me tell you about it briefly:
As Mashable says ” NBC.com has announced a service called “NBC Direct” which will allow users to download NBC shows such as “The Office,” “30 Rock,” and “Heroes,” to their desktop. The NBC Direct software will allow users to view each episode for up to one week, at which point the license will expire. While free to view the shows, the videos will include advertising.

NBC Direct will also include a feature for automatically delivering new episodes of NBC shows to users. Versions for both and Mac are expected, with the first release of the software coming in October”.

I am not a fan of NBC, but for those of you guys who watch TV that’s obviously good . I hope the same thing will happen to other channels, so that I will not have to buy a TV set.

The New York Times recently stated: “The New York Times will stop charging for access to parts of its site, effective at midnight tonight. The move comes two years to the day after The Times began the subscription program, TimesSelect, which has charged $49.95 a year, or $7.95 a month, for online access to the work of its columnists and to the newspaper’s archives. TimesSelect has been free to print subscribers to The Times and to some students and educators”.

J. Maynard Keynes once said that “there are no free meals”, so I expect there is a solid model behind those changes. Probably ads will become the main source of revenue or they expect to increase sales of paper version.
