Innovative startup from NYC to publish the Blogosphere

Mike Sabat and Ken Garland from NYC have recently launched a startup that many of you might already have heard about. It’s called: Shelfmade.

What is this startup about?
Users can create personalized print magazines from Internet content. Users shelv an article [just like adding to delicious] ShelfMade saves the article in their account. When the user saves enough articles to fill a magazine, we print their magazine and send it to them.

What makes this startup special?
Well, there is nothing like this right now. On demand has worked for music (iTunes vs full albums), television (HBO on Demand and Tivo). Consumers want choice, many options to choose from and consumers like to build things themselves.
The Internet is a great place to find content, but the computer screen is not good for reading.

What is the objective of the founders?
Many of our goals are on the supply side. For instance we want to build the world’s largest content network from which our users can shelv articles. ShelfMade will also give experts the ability to create and distribute magazines.
We are looking to bring the diverse voices of the blogosphere to more mainstream media consumers - magazine readers. Helping bloggers and independent journalists spread their ideas is a major focus.

Does this startup need an investor? - Yes, sure

    You can’t really say that they offer personalized print magazines from Internet content. At least not now. Maybe in the future, but I can’t say their product is innovative.
