Lycos and Blinkx extended cooperation to create MIX platfom

logoAs you know one of my favorite sites is Blinx, a video sharing site that aggregates more than 12 millions videos and seems to be much more useful than as it allows viewers to rely on dozens of different sources.

Today the big are that Lycos, what I personally consider an “ancient” search engine expanded its cooperation with blinkx, the world’s largest video search engine, fully integrating blinkx functionality on its Lycos MIX platform: link.

The main idea is to have a place to create playlists, find videos from different sources and mix them in a creative way. Therefore the approach is evolutionary, not revolutionary. You can’t invent the wheel everyday and you can’t launch a new as well.

Playlists will be kept permanently, so you better choose something that has value. In my opinion it’s good to share videos with friends using what I call a playlist”, which basically means everyone adding a couple of videos from time to time.

You probably don’t know that when Lycos launched the MIX widget it decided to allow Tripod (www.tripod.com) and Angelfire (www.angelfire.com) members to embed their MIXes onto Tripod and Angelfire blogs and sites. That’s not a big issue, but guys from Lycos thought it might be a good idea.
Even though it’s not impressive it seems Lycos learned a lesson.

They know the world, and 2.0 in particular, is changing and if you want to stay in the same place you have to run faster. Sorry for my philosophical post, but I am really in the mood of thinking thoroughly about everything today.

Lycos MIX reminds me of other similar sites. I think an application that is worth being analyzed is VIZU.
