MeeMix - an excellent personalized internet radio community

It is sometimes useful to go back and rediscover excellent projects from the past. One of them is MeeMix. MeeMix is a personalized internet radio community, founded by Gilad Shlang and Dr. RicardoTarrasch in 2006.

MeeMix was founded on a passion for both music and the internet. They received the first round of financing in September 2006 Also in September of 2006 MeeMix added another music and internet lover to its team, R&D wiz Israel Ben Atar.

In August of 2007 MeeMix received its second round of financing. Today MeeMix is a company of 10, made up of Musicologists, Marketing, R&D and Research.

MeeMix’s service is a combination of two elements:
Personalized radio station.
Web 2.0 community.

Mr. Shlang and Dr. Tarrasch spent 8 months developing a technology that uniquely identifies individual musical taste by using content and behavioral-based methodologies.

The MeeMix algorithm is a taste-prediction tool, which not only points out songs similar to the ones selected by the user, but also takes geographical, behavioral and psychological characteristics into account in order to deliver songs that will match the user’s unique personal taste.

It is the prevailing notion today that personal preference is a balance between nature and nurture. This is the unique combination of a person’s genetic disposition and their present and past experiences define who they are today. By heeding to both nature and nurture, MeeMix are able to offer far more accurate results in determining what music you would like to hear.

For Example: if a 16-year-old girl from Japan and a 22-year-old guy from New York request the same song, then parameters beyond song selection will be considered.

MeeMix’s web 2.0 Community was created to allow for an array of interactions between members. Every member can set up his personal profile and interact with other members in a variety of ways and throughout the site. In addition, the MeeMix communal domain allows members to interact on the basis of similar musical tastes, shared passions, or by reading each other’s thoughts.

Behind all these methods and technical aspects, MeeMix is pure entertainment, without hassles and without effort. In other words, if it’s not fun, it’s not worth it!
