Powerful instant messaging with multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously

How many times have you wanted to do multitasking and was not able to because of unavoidable reasons. Many times you wanted to be present in more than two places at the same time but was not able to because you just can not do that. How many times have you wished that there should be another you so that you can do all your work and be at different places at the same time? Well, it seems you are finally lucky as I have discovered something called pidgin.com that gives you the facility of multitasking i.e. you can log on to multiple IM accounts through pidgin messenger. This means that you can chat with friends at AIM, Yahoo and IRC simultaneously.

For me pidgin.im comes as a boon because it allows you the flexibility to run it on any program like a , , BSD, and other Unixes. There can be several chat programs running using AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, and Zephyr.

There are a lot of interesting features in pidgin like a buddy pounce which notifies you whenever you get a message on any of the chat programs. So whenever a specific buddy logs in, goes away, back from idle and plugs in, anything that consists of text replacement, buddy ticker or a tabbed conversation, pidgin lets you know. One of its many advantages is that it integrates well with GNOME2 and KDE 3.1’s system as well as window’s own system tray. This gives you the liberty to work without the buddy list window opening every time you log in. well you can say that you will be well connected as well as multi connected with a long list of friends.

If you get bored of your old messenger then you look out for an upgraded version. Well, the is pidgin.im is under constant improvement and development. There are constant releases which are upgraded in the page as well. One can also run a finch in the console window which is a text based version of pidgin. You will also find a libpurple that powers pidgin and finch. It helps connect all the IM networks and manages your account preferences. Thus an all in one website that not only empowers you but also makes you feel omnipresent.

    check out buddystumbler.com it’s a site that allows meeting people across IM networks (AOL, MSN, Yahoo or Google). it’s enabling social networking using IM.
