I know it is a matter of choice and an important moral issue, but I can’t refrain from writing few words about… my personal opinion is that technology should always help people and if someone is religious he/she should benefit from any technology to follow his/her beliefs… I am not going to tell you anything more about moral issues, as it is out of the scope of this website… let me give you some examples of the combination between religion and Web 2.0…
1. People2Pray

Just a way of praying for each other. Very simple, but seems to have attracted huge number of visitors. What should be improved is graphics and “client support”. No “about” or “Faq” sections.
A good idea, that could have become even better is someone spend 2 more days on it.
Overall mark: 7/10
2. Calebscafe
It’s a place where users can build christian communities. It is a typical Web 2.0 website where it is easy to interact with each other. An interactive guide is available here: link.
Overall mark: 8/10
3. Mecanbe
This is not exactly about religion… it’s more about self-development. The main advantage seems that: “The interesting side of the application is the team-based goal management where you can see the progress of the team and compare it with yours on a specific goal. Interesting also is the leverage of the Flickr API to enable you to attach a picture to your profile and to any goal”.(read more)

The name is self-explanatory… as the authors wrote: “Get your calendar up and running in 10 minutes it’s a pieceof cake! My Church Events is so easy to use, no special computer skills or programming knowledge is needed. For best results, we recommend Internet Explorer 5.5 or later on a Windows-based PC. However, the online calendar is compatible with other browsers and Macintosh computers”. It’s very easy to use, but still a great idea.
Overall mark: 8/10
5. Oaktreeidea.
Another place for communities. It’s nothing new or very creative, but it is a well done website worth visiting.
Overall mark: 7/10
6. MyChurch

“MyChurch.org is a free online tool for churches to outreach and build community by networking their congregation. Amongst some of its features are a library for sermons and media, a social network, a classifieds board, a collaborative blog, a photo sharing app, and an event calendar for you and your church”.
Overall mark: 7/10
7. Koolanoo
“Koolanoo offers Jewish people everywhere an opportunity to come together and share trusted, select and relevant information about anything and everything. Link-in, exchange information, share access, build up or maintain relationships with people whose friendships could bring invaluable advantages”.
Overall mark: 8/10
8. Muslimespace
A website devoted to the muslim community, which is somehow similar to myspace. It offers a variety of tools and it is very well done from a technical point of view.
Overall mark: 8/10
9. Crossconnector
The founders report:”Art of Mission is a small independent web design firm. Our mission is to Glorify God by creating web applications for non-profit, social service, and ministry organizations. CrossConnector is our first web application designed specifically for missions. We built CrossConnector because we needed it ourselves”.
Overall mark: 7/10
10. Ebible
Probably the best Web 2.0 site about the Bible. Even though the project should be made more “catchy” it’s still a website you should visit if you want to look into this topic.
Feel free to discuss your favorite websites and write about them.

This “Jewish MySpace” just raised funding of $3M:

There’s clearly a market for this kind of services. I also wonder if the next big hit will be muslimspace.com…
