AlternativeTo is an excellent startup which allows you to look for alternative software and online tools to any Windows, Mac, Linux and web application. You simply enter the name of the software/application you want to replace with a freewere and the site will give you a list of what it believes to be equally good or even better alternatives.

This site is great especially for students willing to use the same functions that complex commercial programs have. What is surprising is that never before have we seen such a startup even though the idea is definitely simple. Well, this is not exactly true. You can use Dooblet and Wakoopa, but they are not effective enough. It’s far better to stick to AlternativeTo.

What is worth underlying is that  supported operating systems include not only Windows and Mac but also Linux, so that users from all over the spectre are taken into consideration. There is also a category that is the one that deals with SaaS products. Pretty cool,  isn’t it?
